All hell will break loose at Liverpool if Real Madrid or Barcelona were to succeed in a summer swoop for Virgil van Dijk. The grim possibility of one of the Spanish giants landing the Premier League’s outstanding defender was raised by BBC pundit Garth Crooks in his analysis of his masterclass against Everton on Sunday. “What a colossus this man is,” gushed Crooks as he named Van Dijk in his BBC Sport team of the week. “In the white hot heat of a Merseyside derby, Virgil van Dijk was simply immense.
