Chug along on a 1.5 mile train ride that passes underneath the Twister rollercoaster, through a tunnel and deep into the Knoebels woods. Sit back, relax and keep an eye out for the friendly wildlife along the way! Brought to Knoebels in 1960. Each train comes from a different location, from Milwaukee, WI and Trenton, NJ to Zilker Park in Austin, TX.
Pioneer Train, a 16 in (406 mm) gauge, gasoline-powered railroad installed in 1960 by Allan Herschell Company. The railroad continues to operate an Allan Herschell S-16 model locomotive and train, which resembles a classic streamlined diesel locomotive train, as well as a few other locomotives that resemble classic steam locomotives. The track travels from near the edge of the park into a wooded area where there are feeders for viewing the local wildlife.
